Cyanobacteria can grow rapidly in ponds, lakes, and basins, forming surface accumulations. Some species produce toxins that can pose risks to human and animal health.

Cyanobacteria
Understand algal blooms and sustainably preserve the quality of your body of water
What you see
Your body of water has a green, blue-green, or sometimes brownish coloration, accompanied by characteristic signs:
- A cloudy or highly colored water.
- Greenish streaks, slicks, or scums on the surface.
- Accumulations near the banks, under the effect of the wind.
- Greater proliferation during warm and sunny periods.
These manifestations can appear quickly and evolve according to weather conditions.
What this means
Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic microorganisms naturally present in aquatic environments. When conditions become favorable, certain species can multiply massively and form proliferations called blooms.
Their development is notably favored by three factors:
- An excess of nutrients, particularly phosphorus and nitrogen.
- High water temperature and significant sunshine.
- Low water circulation and stagnant conditions.
These proliferations often reflect a biological imbalance in the body of water, linked to eutrophication.
Caution: green water is not necessarily due to cyanobacteria. Only appropriate analysis can confirm their presence and assess any toxic risk.
Why act now?
The proliferation of cyanobacteria is not just an aesthetic problem. It can have significant health, environmental, and economic consequences.
- Health risks: certain cyanobacteria can produce cyanotoxins, which may lead to restrictions on swimming and other water uses.
- Water quality degradation: blooms disrupt the biological balance and can cause significant variations in dissolved oxygen.
- Impact on biodiversity: the decomposition of a large biomass consumes oxygen and can weaken aquatic fauna.
- Operational constraints: restrictions on nautical activities, enhanced surveillance, and possible disruptions to pumping equipment.
Early intervention, combined with accurate diagnosis, makes it possible to better control the factors favoring these proliferations.
The TASO Solution
Physical control and biological regulation of the body of water
TASO favors a global approach aimed at controlling cyanobacterial blooms and acting on the factors responsible for their development.
Our method relies on three complementary levers, adapted to the characteristics and uses of the body of water.
In case of suspected cyanotoxins, sanitary measures and analyses remain essential: environmental management solutions do not replace the control of water's sanitary quality.

Need a study?
Each body of water has specific characteristics: depth, volume, temperature, nutrient load, water circulation, and uses.
TASO accompanies you in identifying the causes of proliferation and defining a protocol adapted to your situation.
