    Increase in water consumption

increase in water consumption 1 1

    What you see

The water level in your reservoir or storage pond is dropping faster than usual, forcing you to make frequent and costly top-ups.

The associated symptoms are often technical in nature:

    • Frequent backwash cycles
    • Unexplained decline in performance
    • Dense border vegetation
    • Water overheating

    What this means

If the basin’s waterproofing (civil engineering) is not at fault, this excessive consumption is due to biophysical factors.

The TASO analysis identifies three areas of waste that are often underestimated by operators:

    1. Waste Due to Clogging (Technical Losses): This is the leading cause in industry and irrigation. The presence of microalgae or suspended solids (SS) clogs filtration systems. The control system then triggers continuous backwashing.
    2. Plant Evapotranspiration: Emergent aquatic plants (helophytes) and invasive species act as biological pumps. They absorb water through their roots and release it as vapor through their leaves.
One hectare of water primrose or common reed can transpire 3 to 4 times more water than the natural evaporation from an open surface.
    3. Enhanced Thermal Evaporation: Turbid or dark water (rich in organic matter) has a low albedo: it absorbs solar energy rather than reflecting it. It therefore heats up faster than clear water, thereby accelerating surface evaporation.

    Why act now?

Beyond the direct financial cost of water (billed cubic meters or pumping costs), this situation jeopardizes the farm’s long-term viability:

    • Risk of a critical shortage: During periods of drought or when prefectural restrictions are in place, every cubic meter counts. Excessive consumption can lead to the suspension of irrigation or industrial processes.
    • Pollutant concentrations: Less water means higher concentrations of nutrients and toxins (the "cocktail effect"), which in turn promotes algal blooms and cyanobacteria.
    • Premature wear and tear on equipment: Pumps and filtration systems that are constantly in use for cleaning cycles wear out prematurely.

    The TASO Solution
    Clarify to Save

TASO works to reduce biological and technical demand. Our goal is to make the water “easy” to filter and thermally stable.

    1

Reduction of filter load (Ultrasonic & Biological Action)

To prevent waste caused by backwashing, we remove algae and biofilm upstream of the pump.

How it works: Ultrasound breaks down algae, and Biolimpid colloidal matter. The water reaches the filters clear, drastically reducing the frequency of cleaning. Water savings are immediate.

    2

Management of Plant Transpiration (Physical and Optical Methods)

We limit the growth of vegetation that "drains" the reserve.

The action: Installing benthic screens or using selective dyes (such asBleu Marine) inhibits photosynthesis. By reducing plant biomass, we effectively shut off evapotranspiration.

    3

    Clarity and Reflectivity (Mineral Action)

We keep the water crystal-clear to prevent it from heating up.

How it works: The addition of Nautex (calcium carbonate) causes the particles responsible for turbidity to flocculate. Clear water reflects UV rays more effectively, heats up less, and therefore evaporates more slowly.
