Swimming Area Closure & Water Quality

Swimming area closure – Sanitary Quality Level 1 1

    What you see

The operation of your waterway has been suspended or is at risk. The situation is critical and obvious:

    • Administrative ban following a non-compliant ARS analysis.
    • Visual signs of pollution: The water appears abnormally cloudy, has a green or bluish tint (algal bloom), or has a film on the surface.
    • Customer complaints: We have received reports of dermatitis (duck fleas), eye irritation, or stomach problems.

    What this means

Your body of water can no longer handle the pollution load. TASO identifies two major risk factors:

    • Toxic Risk (Cyanobacteria): This refers to a bloom of potentially toxic microalgae (neurotoxins, hepatotoxins).
    • Excess phosphorus and warm, stagnant water promote their proliferation. They accumulate on the surface in the form of “blooms,” making the water dangerous to touch or ingest.

    Why act now?

Every day of closure has serious consequences for the operator:

    • Immediate operating losses: For a recreational facility or campground, the impact on revenue is direct (refunds, early departures).
    • Long-term damage to reputation: Media coverage of pollution or the loss of a certification (Blue Flag) can tarnish a site’s reputation for several seasons.
    • Criminal Liability: In the event of confirmed poisoning of people or animals (dogs), the operator may be held liable for failure to ensure health and safety.
    • Increased monitoring: Non-compliance often leads to more frequent ARS inspections, increasing the administrative burden.

Control blooms and sanitize the environment

    1

    Cyanobacteria Management (via Ultrasonic Treatment)

We physically prevent the formation of toxic foam.

How it works: The installation of ultrasonic transducers targets the cellular structure of cyanobacteria to prevent them from forming gas vacuoles.

The result: They lose their buoyancy and sink to the bottom, where they die from lack of light without releasing large amounts of toxins. The water column remains clear.

    2

    Soil Stabilization (Action Minérale)

    We treat the bacterial "reservoir."

The action: Treating beach sediments with minerals limits the release of bacteria when the sand is churned up by swimmers.
